My submission for Zeitgeist Day 2012
Zeitgeist Day 2012 London will be hosted at Friends House in Euston on 10th March, and will feature an overlapping spread of detailed lectures, discussion groups, film showings and Q&A sessions.
I would like to be a speaker at this year’s event, but I’m finding it hard to write my pitch. “Submissions should have a text abstract explaining, in a detailed fashion, the substance and scope of their presentation, as well as what, if any, software is being used for any presentation slides. Abstracts should be no more than 200 words in length.”
The structure of the talk I have in mind goes something like this:
Intro - Who I am? (I feel it would make a nice to change to present a talk with is personal, and thus something everyone could relate to. It’s why my videos have worked afterall!)
6 facets of the establishment and how the internet changed things in my opinion: Charity, Education, Politics, Entertainment, Health & Activism.
Conclusion: Everyone has the opportunity to make a significant difference.
With all that in mind, if you could take a look at what I’ve put below and give your feedback, I would be greatly appreciative! Right now it has 300 words, so I will have to cut 100 from somewhere. Thanks for your time.

Myles Dyer (24) uses YouTube as a vehicle for social change, obtaining 7+ million views (and over 6m live broadcast views) since 2006. Video blogging has been his method of challenging traditional establishments in an attempt to help them evolve with the new emergent cyber technology. His experiences spread over a wide range of fields:
CHARITY: Founder of Stickaid: an annual 24 hour non-stop live broadcast for UNICEF. (Viewed by 1.5m & raised $30,000 in 2011 alone.)
EDUCATION: Represented the University of Hertfordshire (2007), informing professors across Europe, in Canada & Australia about how video blogging can revolutionise the education system.
POLITICS: Invited into the Foreign office’s department of digital diplomacy (2009) to talk about online community, and thoughts on PM Brown’s video response (2008) to Myles’ video question on freedom of speech.
ENTERTAINMENT: In 2008 he put together a team of YouTube content creators who entered the BBC reality TV show Upstaged, and winning each round by 8 times the votes.
HEALTH: Developed theory called ‘Expressive Insight’ which is about using video blogging to cure many forms of depression. (Has even got people off medication). Documentary about this to be launched on Sky TV in 2012.
ACTIVISM: Developed the Universal Solutions Project, which received support from both Peter Joseph and TVP.
- Developing a hologram of Jacque Fresco (2012) so people can interact with the visionary in decades to come.
Myles has lived & breathed online community since YouTube began, and spends every possible moment helping people realize their potential to change society regardless of their geographical location, experiences or passions. Talking at ZDay 2012 would be an extraordinary opportunity to inspire people who already wish to make a difference, but perhaps do not yet realize the methods in which they could achieve their goals. The world is becoming an increasingly scary place, and with the tools for social change already there in front of us, we must act in unity before it’s too late.
